Recommended Border Tile

Stratford Vinyl Ceiling Tile - Translucent

We recommend using Stratford Vinyl Ceiling Tile - Translucent as a border tile for Convex Ceiling Tile - Translucent.

For tiles that either project down into the room or are coffered (recess up into the ceiling), the finished look is often better when using a border tile for partial tiles on the room's perimeter.

Highlights:
The Convex Grid Tile is a stand-out design that need not beg to be noticed. The 1.93" drop will give your ceiling a truly 3 dimensional look- No silly glasses needed. Being that it is FDA compliant, it is an excellent choice for restaurants. We are also proud to say that it is made in the USA.

Things to Consider:
The Convex tile is not suitable for use as a direct mount tile, since it is not flat on the back. Keep in mind that the Convex tile drops below the grid nearly 2', so you'll want to be sure you have ample head space to allow for this projection.

Since your ceiling will more than likely have partial tiles at the perimeter, you will have to cut the tiles to size for those areas. Since this tile has such a dramatic projection, it isn't suitable to be used as a partial tile. Not to worry, since we have many great border tile options. You will notice that we have them conveniently linked for your selection on the product details page. While it is only .013" thick, the embossed design gives it the rigidity and structure needed to support itself in the grid with no sagging. To avoid the risk of sagging, you will want to avoid putting any weight on top of it. If you would like to keep your existing acoustical tile in the grid for insulation or sound barrier purposes, we recommend that you place it above the frame work so that it is not in direct contact with the tile. If your grid is already white and in good condition, it should match the white Convex tile very well. If you are going with a colored option, we highly recommend that you consider the Grid Tape or Grid Strips since they are color coordinated with the ProLite collection. If you would prefer to avoid the extra expense, you can of course paint your grid as well.

Greenguard
Greenguard Gold Certification offers strict certification criteria that considers safety factors to account for sensitive individuals (such as children and the elderly), and ensures that a product is acceptable for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities. It is referenced by both The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Building Rating System. Click here for more information.

UL Listing/Certification
Certain ProLite ceiling tiles are approved drop-out ceiling panels that can be installed beneath fire sprinklers. When exposed to heat from a developing fire, drop-out ceiling panels soften, distort, and fall from the ceiling grid. Heat from the growing fire activates the sprinkler which, unimpeded by the panels, controls or extinguishes the fire. Click here for more information.

Waterproof
Materials used in the construction of the tile(s) are 100% waterproof.

Class A Fire Rated
Tiles have been tested in accordance with ASTM 84e and scored a Class A rating for flame spread and smoke generation.

What a difference!

My home is over 30 years old and the existing tiles were yellowing and cracking. I've looked in all the big box stores as well as local hardware for replacement tiles for the lighting in my kitchen. This proved to be more difficult than I thought it would be. I found these tiles online and was pleased at both the cost and the style. They were delivered promptly and it's an amazing difference. Everyone notices!

Looks good

Works well with full 2X2 ceiling tiles but difficult to make it work when it needs to be cut down since the design hangs lower than the grid.

Thank you for the kind comments Stephanie! As Stephanie mentioned, this tile is best used as a full tile and you'll probably want to select a different tile for your perimeter tiles. With the Convex, we recommend using the Stratford for the border tiles. It matches well to the Convex and is easily cut to size for partial tiles around the room's perimeter.
