CM-5011 Crown Molding is a plain, 10-1/4" breadth crown molding typically used in rooms with ceiling heights of 10' - 11'.

uDecor crown molding is manufactured with a dense architectural polyurethane compound (not Styrofoam). Polyurethane is durable and 100% waterproof. The material can be sanded to shape just like wood.

A major advantage of polyurethane is that it is safe to install in rooms with the presence of moisture like bathrooms and kitchens. This product will not encourage the growth of mold or mildew.

This molding is delivered pre-primed for most paints. Always test your paint on a small section to make sure there are no compatibility issues with the paint and primer. Most home latex paints work great on our molding.

Read the DIY Pro Tips section about using adhesive when installing.

  • Breadth - the distance between the outer contact point with the ceiling to the bottom contact point with the wall.
  • Height - the distance between the ceiling and the bottom contact point with the wall.
  • Width - the distance between the wall and outer contact point with the ceiling. The breadth is the hypotenuse of the right triangle whose legs are the width and the height.

Our crown molding installation video, walks you step-by-step through a full installation, including how to measure for crown molding, with plenty of tips on how to make your project look amazing. Below are some of the key things to remember.

Use Adhesive for a Lasting, Seamless Finish
Apply a small bead of adhesive along the length of the molding on the back where it contacts the wall and the ceiling (watch). Finish nails help secure the molding while the adhesive sets. Most importantly, apply adhesive between any molding being joined end-to-end.  You will need 1 tube of adhesive for about every 6 pieces of molding. Loctite’s PowerGrab or PL Premium work well in most applications.

The Final Piece
Cut the last piece you install on each wall just a little long. 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch is usually enough to allow you to snap that piece in place, making sure all your joints stay nice and tight. This is easiest to do when you leave the last two feet of the previous piece unnailed (watch).

Painting
Our moldings do not need to be primed. Plus, since polyurethane does not absorb moisture, paints that are self-priming or a Paint & Primer in One may not dry properly. Standard latex paint is less expensive and will give you the best result.

Be Mindful of Temperature Effects
All materials expand and contract with changes in temperature. For best results, when installing on a hot day, keep the molding inside until you are ready to make your cut.

25 Year Limited Warranty

You're making a beautiful upgrade to your home and we're here to help protect that investment. We guarantee that your polyurethane millwork will be free from manufacturing defects for twenty-five years from the original date of purchase.

Warranty Conditions and Limitations

This warranty covers material defects in our polyurethane products when used in standard applications where temperatures do not exceed 150°F. It does not cover labor, consequential or incidental damages. This warranty is not transferable and applies to the original purchaser only.

  • Polyurethane products are for decorative uses only.
  • Polyurethane products need a finish coat of paint during installation; it is the purchaser's responsibility to make sure their paint works well with the product (test and let dry on a small piece first).
  • Before installation, allow your polyurethane product to acclimate to room temperature for 15 minutes.
  • All polyurethane moldings must be installed with tight fitting joints (see installation instructions) as well as adhesive between the joints to prevent seams from expanding during changes in season.

We're Ready to Help

Unlike a car, not much can go wrong with a polyurethane product since polyurethane doesn't absorb moisture and won't be affected by insects. However, in the rare event that you do encounter a defect with your product, we're here and ready to help. Just give us a call and we'll work with you to identify the problem and, in case of defect, supply you with replacements.

The UDecor team is awesome, moulding not perfect

If I could do 3.5 stars, that would be more accurate. First, the UDecor team is very helpful and responsive - they are why I leaned toward 4 stars. Second, I learned a valuable lesson, and shared that lesson with Udecor. I suggested that with these large moulding profiles they give a MINIMUM saw size. I was using a 12 inch sliding arm miter saw and it STILL was not large enough for some cuts. Back to that in a minute. ALSO VERY IMPORTANT... Having only ever worked with wood moulding, I expected complete uniformity of this formed and manufactured molding. It was definitely not uniform. Some pieces had portions that were thicker in areas, making joints not line up perfectly.. And the fact that my saw was not large enough to cut a kerf joint, made me do butt joints between pieces, which exaggerated the inconsistency of the profile. I also learned that it is practically impossible to cope a joint with a piece that is this deep and covers wall and ceiling. I really should have done this with 2 pieces. One for the wall, one for the ceiling. It would have been much easier to work with, and more perfect results could have been achieved. Sometimes a shortcut just isn't a shortcut. The material is light but not overly fragile. Using nails as a support, it makes it possible to install yourself, but definitely easier when I had a helper. I was wrapping the top of a floor to ceiling brick fireplace, and this material, rather than wood, made it possible.

Great product and service! But this molding is too big for most saws.

The product arrived in a timely manner, was well packaged, and looks great out of the box. I received good followup from Niquie in customer service. So no complaints about the product or company. The only issue is that this particular molding is so large that I can't find a saw big enough to cut it properly. I thought I would do this job myself, but I'm having to pay someone more talented than me to build an oversize miter box to cut it.

Buy extra

I had to buy a second round of crown as my installer noted that the profile of two pieces was not matching up. I did not mind paying for the extra pieces, but I got charged a min. fee for the second order. I asked the company to waive the added fee. No luck.

We're so sorry to hear about the profile issue Steven; that is very strange, but we certainly are happy to replace any piece, without charge, if there is ever an issue with the piece. In the event it is just an order for 1 or 2 pieces due to not having enough for the job, we do have to charge the minimum fee since it typically costs as much to ship a single piece of molding as it does a full box due to the length of the molding. So as you recommended in your title, it is always a good idea to plan for about 10% waste in the project and get an extra piece or two. We really appreciate the opportunity to serve you and hope you love the look of your new crown molding!

Nice molding

Looks beautiful, but be prepared to have the correct miter saw to cut as this is such a large crown mold - If not, I recommend purchasing the corner blocks as this is tough to get a clean miter for do-it-your-selfers. Other than that - easy install on the straight parts. I put this up myself and was able to handle the 8' sections without assistance as they are light enough; as opposed to a wood product. Very happy! LauraG

Looks great, very impressive.

Exactly what I needed. Beautiful Molding. Light weight, easy to install. Get a lot of ewes and awes when visitors see it. Might let future customers know that due to the height of this particular Molding I wasn't able to make the necessary 45 degree cuts myself, but, by calling around locally I found a custom Cabinet Shop that had a large enough saw and the experience to cut the angles to my specifications. They charged me $75 but it was worth every penny.
