CM-1040 Crown Molding is a Plain, 4-1/2" breadth crown molding typically used in rooms with ceiling heights of 8' - 9'.

uDecor crown molding is manufactured with a dense architectural polyurethane compound (not Styrofoam). Polyurethane is durable and 100% waterproof. The material can be sanded to shape just like wood.

A major advantage of polyurethane is that it is safe to install in rooms with the presence of moisture like bathrooms and kitchens. This product will not encourage the growth of mold or mildew.

Installation is simplified with the use of modern adhesives. Small finish nails are used to secure the molding while the adhesives set. See below for installation instructions.

This molding is delivered pre-primed for most paints. Always test your paint on a small section to make sure there are no compatibility issues with the paint and primer. Most home latex paints work great on our molding.

  • Breadth - the distance between the outer contact point with the ceiling to the bottom contact point with the wall.
  • Height - the distance between the ceiling and the bottom contact point with the wall.
  • Width - the distance between the wall and outer contact point with the ceiling. The breadth is the hypotenuse of the right triangle whose legs are the width and the height.

When planning for crown molding, inspect the walls and ceiling to see if any vents or other objects are within the footprint of the molding. Consider mitered returns at the ends of any molding runs that may be interrupted by these items. Allow 48 hours for the molding to acclimatize to the conditions where it will be installed.

It is easier to paint the molding before installation. Working at waist level is always better than working over your head. Paint your molding before you start the installation process. Then touch up the imperfections after you are done with the install.

ALWAYS test a section with your paint of choice before committing to painting all of your molding. Paint formulations change all the time and you want to be sure there is no adverse interaction between your paint and the primer on the molding.

Joining Pieces-
Always use an appropriate amount of adhesive on the end of any of the molding being joined end to end. This prevents the molding from separating as the house walls expand and contract with temperature changes.

Last Piece on a Wall-
For a tight fit and seams, cut the last piece that is going to be on a wall just a little long. 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch is usually enough to allow you to snap that piece in place making sure all your joints stay nice and tight.

Lining Up The Pieces-
When two pieces of molding are being joined together in a run (end to end) leave the last two feet of the open end of the installed molding loose so you can have some alignment room when you join the next piece.

Finishing The Job-
Use Spackle to fill in nail holes and painters caulk on the edges between the molding and the wall and ceiling. Touch up these areas with paint.

Looks great and easy to install!

We used a plank ceiling to cover up a nasty textured ceiling and needed molding to finish it off. This gave us the look we wanted, it wasn't overly expensive, and we were able to install it ourselves. We will be coming back for more!

Good product

Crown molding is a good finishing touch for an office remodel. Relatively easy to install and finish. Painted well.

Took a long time to get but like the product

We've enjoyed using this product for our full home remodel, the product works great. Orders take an extremely long time to ship, the last two orders we've placed had to be back ordered. One order took over 6 weeks to receive. So plan ahead and add a buffer into your installation timeline if purchasing products from UDecor.

Great end result.

I'm an average DIY er. It took me a bit to get used to cutting the corners. Let's just say I had to fill some gaps. I am happy with the end result. I do wish udecor would have some guidance on compound saw settings for the typical 90 degree inside and outside corners. The product was easy to work with. There were some discrepancies in dimensions, but they lined up well for the most part.

Inconsistent Milling

The finished side of the molding is great. Looks good and fits right, but the back of the molding is completely inconsistent from piece to piece which makes alignment for cuts, particularly miters, as well as alignment on the wall very difficult. The back of each piece should be either perfectly flat or have a consistently sized projection but not a mix of flat and multiple sizes of projections

A great finish to a room

The trim came individually sleeved and arrived in just a few days after ordering. The product cut very smooth with no splintering with just a carbide tooth miter saw. Because of the "odd angle" - I would STRONGLY recommend using the MC-4l corner blocks though - It made a possible miter nightmare into a simple straight cut. ( the only thing that wasn't available - that I was able to find i the website that would have helped was a matching outside corner block. - but since it was only one corner I was able to make it work with a little more effort. I did paint them using a Wagner sprayer and made for a very nice finish. I would definitely use this product again on future projects. I have 10 ft ceilings and this was perfect and not too overpowering but made a statement.

Great Product - Difficult Install

We ordered enough of this molding to do every room in our new 2br condo. It looks great and we love the U Decor product. One issue that came up for us - Crown molding is difficult to install because you cannot just cut the angle "flat" but you have to lay the crown onto your mitre saw using the back plate as the ceiling and the deck as the wall. But this was made more challenging for us because although our molding looked the same on it's face, the profile was different on about 1/3 of the pieces delivered to us. This required our molding guides to be reset for these peices, but we didn't realize that and couldn't figure out why our cuts were not working out. We finally figured it out but it was frustrating and it's something you should check out before trying to install. If you have any reservations about using "foam" instead of wood, don't worry. This material is great to work with, so much lighter than wood.. but REALLY REALLY Strong. at one point I dropped a hammer from ladder height onto the face of a piece of UDecor moding, and it didn't even make a dent. I'll never use wood molding again. I really like this product.

looks great

It was exactly what I expected. Very easy to work with, love the finished look. the only thing that could make it better would be longer lengths.

Great Product - Much Better Than Wood

We experimented with this polyurethane crown molding and are very happy. It has a flexibility that helps it fit onto walls that aren't quite flat. We like that we can so easily trim the molding to fit corners. When we started we used construction adhesive on the back but quickly abandoned that. It was too messy and brad nails easily did the job on their own. This stuff paints just like wood. After practicing, we found only about half of the pieces need a second coat. A pro could probably avoid second coats altogether. uDecor got our order to us (32 pieces) in two days which was impressive, and the price is very competitive. Overall a very positive experience and solid value. We'll be back for more.

Top Notch Product

Used in master bedroom and made a dramatic difference in appearance. Only disadvantage is limited lengths of product. Also do not take advise giving on video for butting edges. Should have know to angle cut as I always have in the past. Impossible to properly match when butting with wall and ceiling discrepancies.
